Kootenay ICE

The Kootenay ICE and Spokane Chiefs came together to make a deal Monday, sending 2000-born?defenceman Bobby Russell south of the 49th parallel.

In exchange, the ICE have received a conditional fifth-round draft choice in the 2019 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

“Adding?Russell to our team provides our defense with some added depth. We liked what we saw from him with Kootenay last season and are excited to bring him into the fold,” said Chiefs’ general manager Scott Carter. “We’d like to welcome Bobby to the Chiefs and look forward to seeing him at training camp in August.”

Russell was originally selected in the sixth round, 123rd overall, by the ICE in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. Since then, the 6-foot-0, 164-pound product of Surrey, B.C. has played 46 games with the ICE, tallying seven points (1G-6A), with his first career WHL goal coming while his team was short-handed.

“We would like to thank Bobby for his efforts both on the ice and in the community during his time with the ICE,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “We wish him all the best in Spokane.”
